Knitting Club
(During indoor recess)
Now that you have had 1 week to try the at home practice, it is time to bring in your needles. If you need more guidance on how to cast on I will assist you in this area during recess. :-)
Knitting Club
Greetings,
I have been talking to the students about knitting club that I will be starting during indoor recess. I feel that knitting is a great way to develop fine motor skills, attention, patience, and builds spatial reasoning skills + so much more. That being said, it is not an easy trade to learn. The great thing is that once you learn it you got it- it’s just like riding a bike!
I have done this the past 2 years during indoor recesses and I have learned that many kids are interested for the first week and then loose interest. I personally can only help 1-2 kids at a time, so I am trying something a bit different this year. If your child is interested, I will be happy to help them but first they need to do some ‘knitting homework’ prior to me helping them. I am hoping this will help them to learn the basics like holding the needles, wrapping the yarn, and the basic “casting on stitch” with two needles. This homework will be easy, based on YouTube videos. This will be your ‘knitting homework’ for the next week. After that week, if your child is still interested and would like me to work with them I will.
The supply list and “Must be able to” is on the back of this paper to get started.
Have fun!

Homework:
Before you buy anything, make sure this is something you think your child can do and is interested in doing. Here is a good video for parents to look at as an overview of knitting for kids.
